1865 Andrew Johnson Congressional Campaign. DeWitt-AJOHN 1866-6, var. Bronzed White Metal. 17.9 mm. 3.1 grams. About Uncirculated.，Signed with a script B on the truncation, a signature used by William Barber, who was first employed at the U.S. Mint in 1865 as an assistant engraver. Very much in the style of the series of presidential medalets first made by the Philadelphia Mint in the 1860s, but Julian notes on page 98 of his <em>Medals of the United States Mint</em>, "So far as is known, the Andrew Johnson <em>silver</em> medalet was not struck at the mint" (emphasis ours). Further, he does not list any of the Andrew Johnson medalets in any composition, but does list 21 medalets similar to this produced for other presidents. In DeWitt, a very similar item is listed as AJOHN 1866-6, differing only in that the fourth line of the inscription is curved; on this piece it is straight. DeWitt notes that it was struck at the U.S. Mint, and described the two varieties that he notes as being struck in white metal. This piece seems to be a richly toned bronzed white metal example. Rare enough that the varieties are incomplete and not well described in any reference. A piece that is certainly worthy of further study.，Collector tag included.，
