Versailles, Kentucky. $10 Original. Fr. 414. The Commercial NB. Charter #1835. PMG Very Good 10 Net. Splits, Previously Mounted.,Some of the great Kentucky collectors of years past have likely discussed this charter at multiple coin shows, shops, and auction rooms. And I would wager that none of them ever thought a survivor from Versailles would actually show up. As a general rule, if a small-town bank was an original series only bank, then it has a virtually 0% chance of ever being reported. While the technical grade of a 10 is pretty much as you would expect for a note from this time period, the eye appeal is that of a note a full grade higher. It has great colors and signatures. Ten dollars went a long way in 1870s Kentucky. This example clearly traded a few hands before getting tucked away. But we are all very lucky that this one never got redeemed and destroyed. Before this discovery there were just nine issuing towns in Kentucky listed as unreported. That list is now down to eight. If you pass on this opportunity then be resigned to the fact that Versailles will likely always be the one that got away.,,
