1807 Draped Bust Half Dollar. O-109a, T-2. Rarity-3. AU-53 (NGC).,A delightfully radiant specimen displaying a faint champagne shimmer across otherwise brilliant surfaces. Satiny mint luster blankets each side and fills the protected regions, imparting a notably reflective complexion to the reverse fields. The obverse fields show the slightest traces of friction, though other evidence of handling is relatively scarce. Weakly defined at the centers, which is expected for the die marriage, but the peripheral elements are pleasantly sharp. Each side shows thin die cracks linking the surround legends, though there is no sign of the cuds at stars 2 and 4 that eventually form to distinguish the rare O-109b die state. This piece sits just outside of the Condition Census for the variety, with a trio of AU-55 examples ranking at the bottom of both Hermans and Tompkins lists. A desirable piece showing strong eye appeal and superior technical quality.,From the Sutton Court Collection of Early Half Dollar Varieties. Earlier ex from our (Bowers and Merenas) sale of June 1985, lot 1980.,
