1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar. O-125, T-14. Rarity-5. EF Details--Whizzed (NGC).，The deep violet patina of this rare specimen is accented by lighter peach hues atop the high points. The surfaces are glossy and somewhat reflective, though otherwise pleasant in light of the stated qualifier. A few trivial ticks are noted under a glass but none are distracting. The dies are in an early state for this marriage, exhibiting Tompkins Die Stage 1/2. The reverse crack through OF has just penetrated through the clouds below and the crack at D of UNITED has not yet formed. <p>This piece falls about midway down the Condition Census for the O-125 variety, with the cleaned AU from the Reiver Collection and an AU-50 (ICG) taking the top two spots. There is an AU-58 (PCGS) that Stephen Herman lists with the O-125a die state, though our cataloger agreed with PCGS when we sold it as an example of the O-125 variety in 2017. Even so, the present piece is among the finest survivors of this Rarity-5 variety and was selected as the plate coin for the T-14 die pair in the 2015 reference by Steve Tompkins.，From the Sutton Court Collection of Early Half Dollar Varieties.
