Mike Packard has documented only 16 examples of this very rare variety, the finest of which is only in the Very Fine range. This example exhibits rich chestnut brown surfaces that are subtly granular, with uneven wear on the reverse where the die was failing, creating a mounded central reverse that wore more quickly in that area than thirst of the coin. There is actually ample feather detail on the right side of the reverse, where a singular planchet striation meanders through the eagles wing. Mikes obverse/reverse split grade of AG/VG is perhaps more descriptive of the amount of surviving detail on this specimen. Missing from the comprehensive Norweb and Partrick Collections, the Ryder 2b-G die marriage appears at auction less frequently than its rarity rating might presuppose, indicating that most collectors are loathe to let one go in their quest for a complete set of Massachusetts copper die marriages.，From the Michael Demling Collection of Massachusetts Cents.
