1873 Liberty Head Double Eagle. Close 3. MS-61 (PCGS).，A significant condition rarity in an 1873 Close 3 twenty, both sides are sharply defined with lustrous golden-rose surfaces. The 1,709,800 $20 Liberty double eagles coined at the Philadelphia Mint were produced in two varieties. Of the two varieties of 1873 double eagles, the Close 3 is significantly scarcer than its Open 3 sibling, though the precise number struck of this type is not known. The difference between the two logotypes is subtle but readily discernible. The difference may be found in the size and relation of the terminating ball on the boom loop of the 3: on the Close 3, this ball is too large to pass through the opening of the two ends of the three, while the is the same size as the opening on the Open 3. Only some two dozen Mint State specimens are postulated to exist and mostly at the very lowest degrees. The two varieties are more and more appreciated by Liberty double eagle connoisseurs each day, making premium quality specimens such as this increasingly more challenging to secure for a fine collection as time goes by. Difficult to improve upon in either technical quality or aesthetic appearance, this is an opportunity worthy of a strong bidding strategy.，，
