Unc Details--Cleaned (PCGS).，This is a very attractive coin for the assigned grade, with both sides retoning nicely particularly at the peripheries on the obverse. Lighter russet rim toning is evident on the reverse, while the centers of both sides are delicate gold. The strike is bold and there is plenty of original luster remaining. Unlike in the East and Midwest, where silver coins had disappeared from commerce early in the Civil War, San Francisco Mint coinage continued to circulate extensively on the West Coast throughout the 1860s. Such heavy commercial use claimed most of the 1,160,000 half dollars struck in 1868. Mint State survivors such as this are scarce and always in demand among specialists.，From the A.J.
