Reverse: Advertisement in seven lines, MURDOCK & SPENCER / STAMPS / BRANDS / STENCILS / BAGGAGE CHECKS / &c 139 &c / W. 5St. CINCINNATI. Nearly Choice but for a couple of very small oxidation spots. Beautiful surfaces otherwise with nearly full gilding and just a bit of mellowing on the high points to deep olive brown. Lustrous, sharp and very attractive. A shallow bulge in the left obverse field is as made. Bowers reports an estimated four to seven known, but this plate piece must be one of the finest. <p>James Murdock, Jr., was a well-known engraver and die sinker for many years. From1864 to 1869, James Murdock, Jr., and William W. Spencer were partners in Murdock & Spencer, engravers at 139 West 5th Street, Cincinnati, Ohio. John Stanton, a prominent die sinker, also had a share of the business, but is thought to have been bought out by the others in 1866. The partnership is believed to have ended by 1869. The business was at 139 West 5th Street, the address on his shell cards. This card will be of wide interest -- including to Civil War token collectors.<p>，Ex Q. David Bowers Collection.，
