1805 Washington Eccleston Medal. Bronzed Copper. 76 mm. By Thomas Webb, for Daniel Eccleston. Musante GW-88, Baker-85. MS-64 BN (PCGS).，A glorious example of this dramatic medal. The high relief portrait of Washington is ringed by a halo of bright copper red, giving the first presidents image, already portrayed in medieval armor, a very classical appearance. The finish on the reverse is also exceptional with a variegated mahogany and copper red patina. As would be expected at the assigned grade level, there are no significant nicks, scratches, edge bumps or other contact marks in evidence. The planchets for these large medals were, of necessity, cast, and specimens normally exhibit porous surfaces. That natural planchet porosity is present on this piece, but it is essentially confined to small areas on the reverse and does not interfere with the medals superior luster. The typical die crack at the center right of the reverse is present. Quaker eccentric Eccleston combined his admiration of Washington with his lifelong advocacy of Native American rights in this bold design, numbered among the finest early medallic portraits of Washington.<p>，From the Cardinal Collection Educational Foundation.，
